The Breakfast Club
"...They who are near to me do not know that you are nearer to me than they are. They who speak to me do not know that my heart is full with your unspoken words. They who crowd in my path do now know that I am walking alone with you. They who love me do not know that their love brings you to my heart..." Rabindranath Tagore: 1861-1941

Sandblags and We Will Rockwell

Interesting title but if you have a 4-year old kid, you'd understand. It starts with Potching watching Freaky sing Bohemian Rhapsody while he sings it with Violet-Haired Girl. He'll pretend he's Brian May on guitars and will copy all his moves. Then the choir (who all look like people on Thundercats) will sing along the "Mamma Mia! Galileo!" part and then BAM! A little fireworks display as Ghostrider enters the stage with a silver necklace with the word "KILLER" in big, block letters. Afterwards, the "bwaaaang" of the gong sounds off.

Party Stage Party at the Palace Party Stage

Confused? Nah, he's just watching Party at the Palace, the 2002 Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth's ascension to the throne. We were given a copy last January when my Kuya arrived from Switzerland. One of the songs performed was rock mecca Bohemian Rhapsody by no less than the rock group Queen with the lead vocals done by Tony Vincent who, according to Pot, is Freaky. Why? Because he has black eyeliner and black eyeliners are for girls. Not to mention Freaky sings differently because, as we all know, it is difficult to pull off any Freddie Mercury song without contorting your face...hence, the name Freaky.

Tony Vincent aka Freaky

And this Violet-Haired-Girl, The Thundercats Choir and Ghostrider/Killer have all amused me the first time I saw them as much as it has amused Pot. I was thinking, What an ingenious way to perform this song! It is only recently (meaning 2 days ago after paying attention to the concert announcer) that I found out that these are actually the people who perform the We Will Rock You stage play in London. Freaky is actually Tony Vincent (who is really quite good-looking,ha!) playing Galileo and The Violet-Haired-Girl is Hannah Jane Fox as Scaramouche and Ghostrider is Sharon D. Clarke as the Killer Queen.

Galileo Rocks! We Will Rock You With Killer Queen

Performance at Party at the Palace: Brian May is, according to Pot,
the one with the kulubot na buhok...

Killer Queen Ghost Rider
Oo nga, magkamuka sila!

And what would any Queen performance be without We Will Rock You? Fairly easy to memorize, any 4-year old will be able to sing this. However, Pot does this with a slight modification. His version goes "We will, We will ROCKWELL!" I think it has something to do with the fact that just last week, Pot was at Rockwell Powerplant Mall. And what about Sandblags? Well, continuing with the Party at the Palace, Rod Stewart performs "Handbags and Gladrags", one of my personal favorites. Imagine my surprise when I hear Pot sing "...the sandblags and the handbagds...Ano na nga ulet yun, Mommy?"

I guess Pot's fixation with rock music started with "School of Rock". He loved the movie and Mr. Schneebly and how he was able to make a band that brought the house down for the Battle of the Bands. Spazzy McGee, Posh Spice, Freddy Jones and Piano Man were Pot's classmates then while I remember falling asleep to the sound of "Smoke in the Water" and Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" after graveyard shift, and listening to Mr. Schneebly sticking it to The Man. From then on, Pot went from wanting to be a great keyboardist, to a gut-bustin' drummer, to a face-melting guitarist. And with the fervor on Rockstar: INXS, of course, Pot was immersed again, by me, thank you very much, in the rock and roll arena. He was looking for Suzie in the elimination finals, was interested in why Marty slammed his guitar and was reminded of Freaky after watching Mig's final performance (he does not know JD, ha!). Just last week, Pot was singing "Mr. Brightside". Good thing he got the words right on that one. But I'm not complaining. The sandblags and rockwell... he'll learn.
