The Breakfast Club
"...They who are near to me do not know that you are nearer to me than they are. They who speak to me do not know that my heart is full with your unspoken words. They who crowd in my path do now know that I am walking alone with you. They who love me do not know that their love brings you to my heart..." Rabindranath Tagore: 1861-1941

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!
I will be having a grand vaca for 5 days this Halloween. From Thursday to Monday. That's five days of no work. I. Am. Excited! What a treat!

I am yet to finish a map ala Prisoner of Azkaban for Potching so we'll have a mini-treasure hunt at our house on the 31st. We had a nasty expereince kasi last year where all the kids were made to walk for 30 minutes in harsh winds (mahangin sa amin e...nasa paanan ka ba naman ng Makiling) and of course, these kids were like wolves looking for prey by the time we were about to start trick-or-treating. At the sight of the first house with candies on a bowl, let's just say 3 seconds after that, all I could hear was just the woog-woog-woogitty-woogitty of the empty spinning bowl. It was like feeding time at the zoo and I did not want to have anything further to do with that. We went home with Pot's empty jack-o-lantern bucket.

So now, if there is another trick or treat at the village, let them come but we'll have our own trick or treat instead! We also plan to watch the Pirotecnico Estatico light and fireworks show at Enchanted Kingdom but at the rate of people flocking to it, we might just watch it from afar. Tipong sa gitna ng South Luzon Express Way, yung damuhan na island nila...yun! Picnic-style pa kami!

I am now listening to the musical score for Goblet of Fire which you can hear at the newly-spruced mini-site YULE BALL. The composer this time is Patrick Doyle (who also did the scoring for Bridget Jone's Diary) and it is a welcome change, if you ask me. While John Williams was superb in his legendary scores for Star Wars, ET and Jurassic Park, Goblet of Fire needed the new approach at scoring the various extreme situations of the plot. Agnes was right in mentioning it had an Enya-esque feel to it (minus the haunting vocals). The track "Harry Potter's Love" (yeah, cheesy I know) is being used on the mini-site I mentioned and while listening to it actually brings images of twirling in a great ballroom and snowflakes falling. Worth checking are the video clips from the movie as well as Harry with Cho Chang and Parvati Patil (who is stunningly beautiful! Indians can be very breathtakingly beautiful, no?) . Don't they look like they star in "Snowflakes in December" or "The Crystal Garden" or some Koreanovela-ish titled movie? Anyhoo, November 18 (or is it November 16 as some sites claim?) better come sooner because I hear this is the best Potter film to date.

So since we are only a few days away from my favorite holiday, Happy Halloween to All!
Don't Forget:
Full Moon daw!

Life Without Music (Ma-Drama Ito!)

Woohoo! Halloween's almost here! Aahh, but first, I have to post this horrifying experience I had. Nah, no ghosts or ghouls involved here, but worse! Yesterday my Dad called me to say that he is going to pick me up at the office but that we have to go to Quezon City first fore some important matters. We leave my office around 7 PM and that's where the horrifying experience started. We were along Buendia and it was traffic with a capital letter T! I am not surprised considering that we considered to take this road during rush hour... I swear, mabilis pa higad sa amin!

I normally sit well with traffic. I am not at all botheres as long as I am not rushing through it. Pauwi na naman ako e... What really bothered me was the music. Yeah, the music from the car's radio. It was a company-issued car and although I CAN request to change the radio station (and be called a bitch because of it), I decided to just stick it out. The radio was tuned into 92.3 Joey. I have no problems with this radio station either but at that moment, they must have been playing the most bo-ring tunes imaginable. Ugh, it was jazz, jazz, jazz it was enough to make me cry and laugh at the same time. It took the rest of my soul to bite my tongue from shouting "Stop It! Stop It! STOP IT!". Is there no hope?!? At that time, my life flashed before my eyes! I saw my radioblog with all the best songs I loved! I heard the strains of the songs I loved! ALL THE SONGS I LOVED! Heehee, haahaa...WAAAAAHHH!

Then I heard the person driving that he was going to change the radio station. Salvation is here, I thought. I would have gladly listened to Yes FM or those pesky stations with Alam Mo Na Yan and Bisyo Na'To blaring from broken speakers but noooo. The station got transferred to 98.7 FM! Wha? I 'm hearing violins...only violins! That can't be good. Oh why classical music?!? I'm pretty old already and my brain cells are doing fine, thank you, so I don't need those Beethoven classics for brain enhancement. What's more, the DJ (if you them that in this Victorian era station) goes on with a historical background on Tchaikovsky's 5th or 8th, I forgot. And it doesn't get better than this. All two hours spent like this... TWO HOURS! I have not lived in the Metro for 2 years now and all I could think of during the trip was that this too, shall pass (besides the fact that I thought the fates have contrived to get me out of the Halloween spirit by trapping me in this trying situation... Sigh).

We got to QC with my ears on the brink of bleeding. After a few minutes of waiting for my Dad finish some business matters, we head on home. Ahhh, there is a God! This is my second lease at life and I am going to maximize it ( right on, you Dell Ditty Masters!). Never again shall I let this happen to me again! How? Uuwi na lang ako mag-isa sa susunod!

What Made Me Laugh Today?

Hmm...what made me laugh today? Or any other day for that matter? I'll tell you: SARCASM and WIT. Those are my favorite type of humor. Just click on the pics below to get a taste of humor that makes you guffaw out loud!

Hillary Duff, Richard Grieco, Phil Spector

I know, it can sometimes be harsh and hurtful but sometimes we do need that massive kick in the head in the form of a joke to push us back into reality. GMA's terror bill? THAT'S FUNNY! In fact, it's the biggest joke I have ever received in the last few weeks. Who could be wittier than a person who can pass a bill EXACTLY like MARTIAL LAW and lead us all into believing that she is concerned about the country's welfare and secuirity against terrorism. Woohoo, you are killing me! Now where are the cameras hidden? You are WOW, Mali, diba?!? No? Oh dear...

Peace The Spork Out: F-5 Jets

The following is an excerpt from F-5 takes last flight; RP external air defense down and out, published on page A1 of the October 2, 2005 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

BASA AIR BASE, Pampanga - As music from the soundtrack of the movie "Top Gun" blared, the fighter jet taxied toward a hangar in this air base to mark the retirement of the country's 37 F-5s, once dubbed the kings of Philippine skies.

Shortly after, retired Brig. Gen. Angel Okol Jr., who was the first to fly the twin-engine supersonic plane for the Air Force in 1965, and Maj. Carlos Evangelista, the last to steer it in 2002, stood beside the aircraft, giving it a last look and posing for posterity.

Called "Freedom Fighter," the 46-foot-long F-5s arrived in October 1965, launching the Philippines into the supersonic age. It was the first Asian country to acquire the planes and, until the '70s, the Philippine Air Force would be the envy of its neighbors.

With the sun glimmering on the plane's wings, Okol (known by his call sign "Cobra 30") and Evangelista ("Cobra 389") lingered and exchanged memories of combat missions.

F-5 fighter Jets

Sad. These fighter jets are supposed to be our first line of defense and while there are indeed no external threats for the Philippines, the glory that these jets brought to our country will be missed. They were not only our first line of defense, they showcased the power of the Philippine Air Force. Back when countries like Malaysia and Singapore were not yet the super-powers of Asia, these F-5 jets soared the skies in salutation of a great nation. We had the Blue Diamonds who were highly-trained fighter pilots that can perform their aerobatics in precision, giving esteem to, not only its viewers but the entire Filipino nation as well.

F-5 Fighter Jets

I can still feel the shivers down my spine the last time I saw these jets fly. Once a year, these jets fly our skies on the annivesary of the Philippine Air Force (PAF). They come all the way from Clark Field in Pampanga and when, for example, the event is being held in Fernando Air Base in Lipa City, the public will be informed that at a precise time when the commentator is talking about the gem of the PAF, the F-5s, these jets will have a fly-by. The commentator goes, "...at this time, the F-5s will soar above us ..." and at that precise momen, the F-5s will shoot from behind the stadium and will fork up and out, leaving a trail of smoke, to the cheers of the crowd, kids and adults alike. For a split second, everyone holds their breath as the hairs on your back stand and for a moment, a lump in your throat rises. As you see these jets soar and get smaller and smaller, your heart soars bigger and bigger with pride. What a mighty nation we are!

F-5s on a Fly-By

And now the pooper. These jets are being decommissioned because they are expensive to maintain. Our first line of defense is down. I hope the government is reminded of the Bosnia-Hersegovina war wherein the huge benefit of a strong air defense is paramount. We are not to wait for an external attack - the insurgency problem in Mindanao is enough reason for government to increase the budget for PAF modernization. Switzerland has an enviable Air Force even though they are constitutionally a neutral nation. These jets are symbols. It is our pride. It bears the colors of our flag and takes with it the heartbeat of the nation. Bring them back.
